What the BairesDev interview is like
BairesDev filters with automatic tests first and talks later. English is not a bonus: for roles with US clients it is the first thing they decide on. If you pass, the technical interview is more spoken questions than algorithms.
- Stages
- Automatic tests, recruiter, technical, sometimes more tests
- Typical total length
- Fast: a few days to about 2–3 weeks
- Language
- English in the technical interview, almost always
- Technical
- Spoken stack questions; tests of 40–90 min
- First tests
- Logic, profile, English and technical, assigned by role
- Volume
- Hires at scale; very selective at the first filter
The stages, in order
- Automatic tests when you apply: BairesDev assigns assessments by role that measure technical skill, English and reasoning. Candidates report logic and behaviour-profile tests of 8 to 40 minutes.
- A recruiter emails you to book the first interview.
- Recruiter and technical interview: your experience and questions on your stack. Candidates report it can start in their own language to break the ice and then continue fully in English.
- Extra technical tests (sometimes): 40 to 90 minutes each, according to reports.
- Project assignment or a client interview, depending on the role.
What it tests
- English good enough for a fluent conversation about work, not exam vocabulary.
- Stack basics explained out loud (for frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React).
- Readiness to work remotely with US clients: hours, connection, working on your own.
- Availability and rate: discussed earlier than at a product company.
Typical questions
The kind of questions candidates report, paraphrased:
- "Walk me through your last project."
- "What is the virtual DOM and why does React use it?"
- "How do you manage state in a large React app?"
- "What hours can you overlap with a team in New York?"
- "What are your rate expectations?"
Tips
Take the first tests calmly, somewhere without interruptions: they are the hardest filter.
Practise explaining technical ideas in English without a script: the usual mistake is memorised English that breaks at the first follow-up question.
Know your rate in dollars before the call.
